There's a Fab exhibition in ealing at the Electric Coffee Co on Haven Green just up from Ealing Broadway Station. It's quite literally Fab as in it's by group member Fabrizio Fabuchan with 10 images from his series Shine on Japan. Ron and I decided to make a visit to see the photos and we randomly bumped into Angelika and Harold which was fun to catch up, have a coffee (which by the way is as good as you can get in Ealing), and look at the photos. The photos are wonderful, displayed in black and white along one wall. We also stumbled across Fabrizio's blurb book in the shelves with books to read which is also worth a look documenting a day on the Yamonote line. Anyway here's how Fabrizio describes the series...

As a photographer, I have long been fascinated by the intimate relationship between the Japanese and their cities; how the city and its inhabitants embrace each other like partners in a dance: naturally, gracefully, in perfect unison. The city has always nurtured its people; provided for and protected them while the people harmonise with the apparently chaotic environment and find peace and happiness within it. But the recent disastrous events have strained this harmony in ways that those born in the last sixty years have not previously encountered. And this dark cloud of sadness has not only descended upon the area immediately affected by the disaster; the whole country is suffering the weight of this tragedy and facing an immediate future where fear and uncertainty prevail.

Can Japan overcome this horrendous setback? I believe it can. I see in the shining faces of those I have photographed over the years the true and enduring nature of the Japanese people: resilience, fortitude, discipline and a determination to prevail and prosper no matter what obstacle is placed in their path. It is the strength of all these individuals, coming together and working as one that will lift Japan out of the depths of adversity and enable them to rebuild their towns and cities, their lives and their future. The heartbreak and loss of this tragedy cannot be erased. It would be wrong to suggest otherwise. But if these faces suggest anything it is that Japan can surely rise again, like its iconic sun, and shine on as an indefatigable example to all.

"Shine on Japan" is a selection of photographs taken in Tokyo between 2008 and early 2011 belonging to various projects of mine. A humble attempt to try and protect the image of Japan that I have learnt to love and admire over the years.

With an average -20C, Astana was covered in snow and ice which lended its arquitecture and colourful decoration a remarcable splendor.
